Northern Aye Photography
About Me
Hi, I'm Doug. I am a freelance photographer based in Ayrshire, Scotland. Although I live in sunny Ayrshire I am open to travelling across Scotland, Northern England (my birth place, hence the Northern Aye!) & further afield. I've been capturing weddings since 2018 but have been passionately capturing the world around me since I got my first 35mm film camera as a teenager.
As a married man, I know how important and fun the big day is. This is what inspires me as a wedding photographer. For me it was the best day of my life! All my favourite people in one room and getting to celebrate love & friendship. There's no other day like it. That is why it is so important to have beautifully captured photographs to look back on for years to come. I take a relaxed and candid documentary style approach to my wedding photography trying to get the most interesting shots that will show the unique character of each wedding individually. I make best use of natural light and dream of golden hour couples portrait shoots.
I am inspired by the contemporary portrait and documentary photographers, such as the Magnum photographers, who find inspiration in daily life as well as the big moments. I have studied documentary photography at the University of the Arts London. When I'm not busy capturing weddings I also do other commission based work, including clients such as The Telegraph, Van Cleef & Arpels and the RSPB, and also pursue my own personal projects. You can see that here. I also find much inspiration in nature and exploring the sights of Scotland with my son and fluffy cocker spaniel Rasmus, and visiting art galleries with my wife. I have had a camera in my hands for as long as I can remember but an interesting fact about me is that I used to work in wildlife conservation where I tried to save species and habitats from exctintion.
